A fire outbreak occurred on Thursday, April 4, at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) in the Ikeja area.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service swiftly responded to the incident, managing to extinguish the fire that originated in the ICT room of the hospital’s Hematology Clinic within the Pre-Pharmacy block.
According to a statement released by the fire service, the emergency call was received, prompting an immediate response from the Ikeja Fire Station.
With the efforts of the responders, the fire was contained within its point of origin, preventing it from spreading to other areas of the hospital.
Fortunately, there were no casualties reported.
It read, “Prompt action from the Ikeja Fire Station of the agency ensured that the fire was contained within the room of its origin, preventing it from spreading to other areas.
“The emergency alert was received at 14:22 hours on Thursday, prompting an immediate response from the fire service. Thanks to the diligent efforts of the responders, the fire was successfully extinguished without any casualties.’’
While the immediate threat has been neutralized, an investigation into the cause of the fire is currently underway.
Ibrahim Farinloye, the NEMA zonal coordinator for the South-West, confirmed the incident, stating that the exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
Meanwhile, this incident follows closely on the heels of another fire outbreak in Idumota, Lagos State, where three buildings were destroyed just two weeks ago.
In a video footage obtained by The Street Journal, the fire was seen causing significant damage to properties worth millions of naira in the affected buildings.
However, there were no casualties reported in that incident as well.
