A significant fire broke out on Tuesday evening at Emab Plaza, a four-storey commercial building located behind Mandilas on Taiwo Street, Lagos Island.
The fire reportedly began on the fourth floor around 7:23 p.m. and quickly spread to neighboring apartments and nearby structures.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service acted quickly after receiving the emergency call, dispatching teams from the Ebute Elefun and Oniru stations. Deputy Controller General Olajide Ogabi confirmed that crews were on the scene working to bring the fire under control.
“We do not yet know what caused the fire, but our teams responded promptly and are actively working to contain it,” Ogabi said.
Residents and traders in the area described tense moments as the flames intensified. Many were forced to leave the area, while firefighters worked to prevent the fire from spreading further.
Earlier in the day, another fire broke out at Afriland Tower on Broad Street, Lagos Island. Authorities have urged residents and traders in the area to avoid the vicinity until the fire is fully under control.
No casualties have been reported so far. The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service said the cause of the Emab Plaza fire remains under investigation and emphasized that safety measures in commercial buildings need to be strengthened to prevent similar incidents in the future.
