The newly constructed High Court complex in Kwara State, situated in the Government Reservation Area of Ilorin, has been razed down by fire on Tuesday, February 13, causing substantial damage to its main building.

It was gathered that the fire broke out around 7:25 a.m., causing significant destruction to the complex, including 40 offices, three open courtrooms, the Registry Department, and the Litigation Office.

The state Fire Service, however, attributed the blaze to a surge in electricity supply to the area.

Hassan Adekunle, Head of Media and Publicity for the state Fire Service, who confirmed the incident, stated, “In the morning of February 13, 2024, at 07:33 hours, the Kwara State Fire Service received a distress call regarding a fire outbreak at the State High Court in Ilorin.

“Investigations have also revealed that the fire was caused by a power surge, emphasizing the importance of electrical safety measures.”

He commended the firefighters for their swift response and courageous efforts in combating the flames.

Adekunle highlighted their successful containment of the fire, preventing further destruction to the High Court complex.

The state Director of Fire Service, Falade Olumuyiwa, also emphasized on the significance of safety awareness and precautions among the public.

Regarding another fire incident on Monday in Ilorin, Adekunle stated, “Today, Monday, February 12, 2024, at about 18:53hrs (06:53 pm) fire gutted a building of about 15 rooms and One shop as a result of a power surge.”

However, the state Director of Fire Service has urged citizens to cultivate the habit of switching off electrical appliances, particularly before bedtime, to mitigate the risk of fire outbreaks in homes or workplaces.
