The first lady of Nigeria, Remi Tinubu has donated N250,000 to each households affected by the flood in TradeMore estate, Abuja.
Recall in June 2023, several residents of the estate along the airport road in Lugbe area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) were trapped by a flood caused by heavy rainfall.
Several houses and vehicles were submerged underwater when the flood lasted.
After the incident, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), declared the estate a disaster area, adding that buildings on the waterways in the area will be demolished.
The media aide to the first lady, Bukola Kukoyi, in a statement on Thursday, July 13, 2023, said the first lady made donations to 57 households through Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), her personal project.
Remi who was represented by the wife of the vice president, Nana Shettima, expressed sympathy over the unfortunate incident.
She acknowledged that there is no certainty in preventing a recurrence of such a disaster but expressed hope that the intervention of the RHI would considerably mitigate the hardships they are currently facing.
The first lady said although the RHI is still in the process of registration by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), she could not ignore the current situation affecting the estate.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, the association chairman of the resident, Adewale Adenaike thanked Remi Tinubu for the support extended to them.
