An overwhelming flood caused by heavy downpour has overrun the main road linking the Gateway Sparklight Estate area in Ogun state, leaving most residents of the area helpless.
Consequently, the flood which occured on Thursday, June 8, 2023, barred residents from carrying out their day-to-day activities as the major road connecting them to the highway became inaccessible.
The Gateway Sparklight estate is located adjacent the Mountain Top University, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun.
A source said that since the development, car owners, motorcyclists, and pedestrians had been rendered helpless as they were unable move on either side of the link road.
He recalled that heavy downpour from Wednesday night till the early hours of Thursday, left many areas flooded in Ogun and Lagos states.
He described the rainfall as a unique kind.
Another source, a female, painted the picture of how the water level seriously affected the location.
She said that, “a furniture shop, drinks shop and others commercial outlets were seriously affected, as the water level reached at least half of the heights of the shops.
“A motorcycle was abandoned by its owner, who might have fled for his life.”
She added that this would not be the first time the area had witnessed a flood challenge saying that one Igbo boy selling gas died here about two years ago.
She said that, “He entered the water with his bike while carrying gas cylinders. The flood carried him, he was brought out dead.”
She appealed to the government to consider the plight of the stranded persons and fixe the road by constructing bridges.
She concluded by saying that, “This road was constructed during the former Governor Ibikunle Amosun’s administration. Since then, no government has attended to it.”
