Former Senior Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Vocational and Technical Education, Prof Joseph Odemuyiwa, died in a car accident while enroute to Oyo State.
The esteemed professor, known for his dedication to imparting vocational skills, was 66 years old.
The news was confirmed by Dickson Awolaja, the lawmaker representing Remo North State constituency, who hails from the same community as Prof Odemuyiwa. Awolaja expressed his sorrow, stating, “I just confirmed from a friend not long ago. Prof was said to be going to Ibadan when he had the accident. This is sad.”
Prof Odemuyiwa had previously served as a lecturer at Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, and Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, both institutions owned by the state government.
In another incident, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Gbolahan Olugbemi, reportedly took his own life.
Olugbemi, who had served as an aide de camp to former Governor Adebayo Alao Akala, was discovered deceased in his home in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
He had returned home for Easter before the unfortunate incident occurred.
Olugbemi, who held the position of DCP in charge of special investigation at Panti, Lagos State, lived alone in his residence on Petros Academy Street.
The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear, as the police have cordoned off the area for investigation.
Despite the shock and sadness that enveloped the community, supporters gathered quietly, reflecting on the loss.
A source recalled seeing Olugbemi recently, noting his occasional visits home with police security and his apparent prosperity, residing in a notable mansion.
