The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has denied social media reports claiming that 16 prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members en route to Gombe state died in a road crash, insisting that no such incident occurred.
The reports, which surfaced on Wednesday, also claimed that the crash left two additional passengers critically injured.
However, the FRSC said an internal verification across its formations in the state returned no evidence of the reported crash.
FRSC Gombe spokesperson, Janet Kassa, said officials immediately conducted checks with units and sector commands to confirm the claim but found nothing to suggest that the incident happened.
She urged the public to disregard the information, describing it as false and misleading.
Similarly, Jennifer Laha, spokesperson for the NYSC in Gombe state, questioned the authenticity of pictures and claims circulated online, saying there had been no official report of such an emergency involving corps members deployed to the state.
Further checks were conducted at Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED) in Ondo state, from where the affected corps members were said to have departed.
The institution also denied knowledge of any accident involving its students.
