Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has charged newly sworn-in permanent secretaries to resist being political in the discharge of their duties, to ensure that the civil service operates more professionally in service to the state. Fubara disclosed that most ministries were without proper administrative heads, some of whom play supervisory roles. The governor said that with the new appointments, the permanent secretaries are expected to chart proper course with the resolve to always do the right things. Fubara gave the charge shortly after the permanent secretaries were sworn-in at the Executive Chamber of the Government House, in Port Harcourt, yesterday. According to him, the permanent secretaries were chosen not because they were lucky, but because they have been found competent in their various ministries and can be trusted to offer greater service to the state. He promised to provide a conducive environment that will enhance productivity, assuring that his administration has promised residents better welfare with good security. He said: “It is not just being lucky to be among the ones that are chosen to be permanent secretaries at this critical time of our government but living up to it.
