Derek Chauvin, the former police officer convicted in the murder of George Floyd, endured a prison stabbing on Friday, November 24.

Chauvin, infamous for kneeling on Floyd’s neck for over nine minutes, became a focal point for racial justice protests globally.

Floyd’s tragic death, with his repeated pleas of “I can’t breathe,” resonated profoundly, fueling widespread demonstrations.

The assault on Chauvin occurred at the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Tucson in Arizona, as confirmed by the US Federal Bureau of Prisons.

Chauvin, who was sentenced to 22 and a half years in prison, had his appeal for murder conviction rejected by the US Supreme Court earlier this month.

Chauvin was convicted of second-degree murder, which is punishable by up to 40 years in prison in the state of Minnesota, as well as third-degree murder, which carries up to 25 years, and second-degree manslaughter, which could earn him 10 years.

Meanwhile, the decision on Chauvin’s guilt fell to the 12-member jury, which had to reach a unanimous decision and gave him 22 and half year sentence.
