The Osun State Government has appointed Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, as the chairman of the Osun Sports Trust Fund, a strategic move to boost funding and development in the state’s sports sector.
According to the government, the initiative is part of broader efforts to reposition sports in Osun and ensure the completion of the ongoing renovation of the Osogbo Township Stadium, which is expected to meet Olympic standards once finalized.
The Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Sports, Kola Adewusi, confirmed Davido’s appointment, emphasizing Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration’s dedication to transforming the stadium into a world-class facility capable of hosting both national and international events.
Adewusi said, “Ongoing renovation and rehabilitation of the Osogbo Township Stadium to meet Olympic standards — a project that will be completed in the shortest possible time.
“I am pleased to inform you that plans are in advanced stages towards the establishment of the Osun State Sports Commission, which will serve as a central body for sports administration, development, and policy implementation. Introduction of a Sports Trust Fund to attract support from sports philanthropists within and outside the state, ensuring sustainable sports financing and development.
“Davido has been appointed to chair the Sports Trust Fund, and he did not hesitate in accepting the appointment. His intervention would attract funds that would impact Osun sports positively.”
