Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has called on President Bola Tinubu to step in and resolve the ongoing dispute over who should control local government councils in the state.
The crisis centers on the continued presence of reinstated All Progressives Congress, APC, executives in office.
The conflict began on February 10, 2025, when the Court of Appeal reinstated APC chairmen and councillors elected in 2022. These officials had previously been removed by a Federal High Court and an executive order issued by Governor Adeleke.
Following the reinstatement, new local government elections were held on February 22, 2025, resulting in victories for Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidates.
Despite this, the reinstated APC executives have maintained control of the council administrations.
In a statewide broadcast on Monday, January 26, Governor Adeleke accused the APC officials of illegally occupying council secretariats.
He maintained that their election had been nullified by the Federal High Court in November 2022, a decision later affirmed by the Court of Appeal in February and June 2025.
