Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, on Thursday presented the 2026 Appropriation Bill estimated at N878.1 billion to the State House of Assembly during a special session held at the International Conference Centre in Bauchi.
Tagged ‘Budget of Consolidation and Sustainability’, the governor said the proposal reflects his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance, long-term planning and strategic investments in sectors critical to the state’s development. He explained that the fiscal plan is designed to consolidate ongoing reforms while addressing emerging economic conditions at both the state and national levels.
Mohammed noted that the draft budget was produced through extensive consultations with communities, stakeholders and policy experts to ensure that government priorities align with citizen needs. He described the 2026 proposal as a comprehensive roadmap for sustainable growth, social inclusion, and the development of resilient infrastructure across Bauchi State.
He highlighted major allocations to education, healthcare, agriculture, rural roads, water supply and youth empowerment, describing these sectors as essential for improving livelihoods and expanding economic opportunities.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to completing ongoing projects and initiating new ones that will boost productivity, create jobs and strengthen local economies.
He also commended lawmakers for their positive reception and their assurance of a prompt and diligent legislative review.
Providing further details, the Commissioner for Budget, Economic Planning and Multilateral Coordination, Amina Katagum, revealed that the 2025 budget performance as of September stood at seventy-nine point one percent.
She explained that the proposed N878.15 billion budget for 2026 consists of recurrent revenue of N450.67 billion, statutory allocation of N89.36 billion, value added tax revenue of N100 billion, internal revenue of N64.61 billion, and other FAAC receipts amounting to N196.70 billion.
Katagum added that capital receipts total N427.48 billion, comprising an opening balance of N11.99 billion, aids and grants of N100.35 billion, the Federal Government borrowing plan of N266.15 billion and other capital receipts of N49 billion.
She listed recurrent expenditure at N310.69 billion, including personnel costs of N106.84 billion and overheads of N204.94 billion. Capital expenditure is projected at N567.47 billion, resulting in a capital-to-recurrent ratio of 65 to 35.
Sectoral allocations include N120 billion for the administration sector, representing 30.7 percent; N435.52 billion for the economic sector, representing 49.6 percent; N12.20 billion for the law and justice sector, representing 1.4 percent; and N310.43 billion for the social sector, representing 35.4 percent. She added that the education sector will receive N131.71 billion, representing 15 percent, while the health sector will receive N132.01 billion, representing 15.03 percent.
The 2026 Appropriation Bill now awaits consideration and passage by the Bauchi State House of Assembly.
