The Governor of Niger State, Mohammed Bago has presented the 2024 budget estimate of N613.3 billion to the state’s Assembly.
Bago titled the budget ‘Budget of the future’, saying the it would drive the government’s programme for a new Niger state.
The governor presented the budget on Tuesday, December 19, to lawmakers in the state assembly.
At the budget presentation were government functionaries and the eight emirs of the Emirate councils.
Governor Bago urged Niger residents to support the government in its programmes to transform the state.
He announced to the audience that he should henceforth be called the ‘Farmers Governor’ in line with his determination to transform the state into a leading farming state.
In his remarks, Speaker of state’s House of Assembly, Sarkin Daji, assured the governor and audience that the budget would be thoroughly screened and passed within one week.
Niger state is a state in the North Central region of Nigeria and the largest state in the country by area.
It has three political zones, zone A, B and C, and the state’s capital is at Minna.
Other major cities are Bida, Kontagora and Suleja.
Niger state was formed in 1976 when the then North-Western State was divided into Niger State and Sokoto State.
It is home to Ibrahim Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar, two of Nigeria’s former military rulers.
