Governor Umar Bago dissolves Niger’s electoral commission over misconduct

Governor Umar Bago of Niger State has dissolved the State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC).

The Secretary to the Niger State Government, Alhaji Abubakar Usman, disclosed this in a statement in Minna, the state’s capital on Sunday, July 2, 2023.

He disclosed that the dissolution had taken effect on May 29, 2023.

“Members of the commission are directed to hand over all property of the state government in their possession to the most senior Director with immediate effect,” the statement partly reads.

The Niger State House of Assembly had on September 27, 2022, sacked the Chairman of NSIEC, Alhaji Baba Aminu over alleged misconduct.
