Gunmen launched a daring attack on Thursday night, January 18, at Hilltop Phase 2 Extension of the Nigerian Army Post-Housing Estate in Kurudu, Abuja, abducting a prominent businesswoman in the process.
It was gathered that the heavily armed assailants stormed the area around 9 pm, firing shots in the air to instill fear among residents.
Despite the presence of soldiers in the estate, the kidnappers managed to escape with the woman through the hillside.
Residents revealed that the assailants initially targeted the victim’s husband but missed him. The woman was abducted as she drove into her compound, prompting her son to raise an alarm, leading to further gunfire.
Soldiers have been deployed to track down the kidnappers, and efforts are underway to apprehend them.
However, the incident was captured on the house’s CCTV system, providing potential leads for law enforcement.
In another harrowing incident on the outskirts of Abuja in Karu, Nasarawa State, a robbery at Wisdom Supermarket resulted in at least four fatalities.
The armed attackers struck the supermarket around 8:50 pm on Tuesday, creating chaos as they shot, demanded money, and looted the premises.
Disturbing videos recorded after the incident depict lifeless bodies scattered throughout the supermarket.
Among the casualties was a Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) staff member identified as Daniel Adefemi Okunade, who also served as the choirmaster at the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC). Okunade was fatally shot in the head while reportedly purchasing bread for his family.
The entire robbery lasted less than two minutes, claiming the lives of Okunade and three other yet-to-be-identified victims.
Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants targeted customers within the crowded supermarket, leaving a somber atmosphere in its wake.
While the motive behind the attack remains unclear, questions have arisen as the robbers spared Okunade’s parked Toyota Venza outside the supermarket.
The community remains tense as authorities from the New Nyayan Divisional Police Station have transported the victims’ bodies to the Mararaba Medical Center mortuary.
