Gunmen have taken the life of one person and abducted 16 others after an attack on a village in Munya Local Government Area (LGA) of Niger State.
The attack occurred at 2 a.m. on Saturday, January 20, when the gunmen invaded the residence of the deceased.
The Chairman of Munya LGA clarified that it was 16 individuals, not 21, who were abducted during the raid and the head of Tsohon Dunguna village was killed, and several of his family members were abducted.
“They came through Chikun, a local government in Kaduna that shares a boundary with Munya. They abducted 16 people and took some people from the family of Alhaji Ahmadu, who they killed. They only spared three people from that family, the rest were taken away,” Najume stated.
According to a resident of the community who corroborated the account, noting that the village head, was among the casualties adding that approximately seven individuals who were kidnapped managed to escape from captivity.
“The attack occurred at the old site of Dungunu. A lot of people deserted the area due to insecurity, but when the government came in, people started going back,” Noma explained.
“They kidnapped 16 people in the village. They invaded the house of the Maianguwa, his name is Ahmadu Maianguwa, the village head, and they killed him. They also kidnapped some of his family members. About seven people were able to escape from the abductors. They also kidnapped other people in the village.”
However, efforts to obtain a reaction from Wasiu Abiodun, the police spokesperson in the state, were unsuccessful, as he did not respond to calls or messages.
