A senior lecturer at the Ambrose Alli University in Ekpoma, Edo State, Professor M. A. Izibili, has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen.
It was reported that the lecturer was abducted over the weekend in Ubiaja, Esan South East Local Government of the State, alongside five others.
According to Daily Post, the kidnapped professor, who lectures at the Department of Philosophy, was returning from a wedding ceremony at Uromi when he was ambushed and whisked into a forest.
It was learnt that the kidnappers who had earlier made contact with the family of the victim, demanded N10 million as ransom for the lecturer.
The State’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Kontongs Bello confirmed the incident.
According to the PPRO, the command is working hard to ensure that the lecturer is released unhurt.
Similarly, the Chairman, of the University’s ASUU chapter, Cyril Onogbosele, also confirmed the incident.
