Gunmen kidnap seven Naval officers in Edo

    Gunmen, on Tuesday, abducted seven officers of the Nigerian Navy in Edo State as they embarked on an official trip,

    It was gathered that the security personnel were ambushed along the Sapele-Warri road by the gunmen while they were traveling from Kaduna to Delta state.

    According to a report by Daily Trust police operatives from the Edo state command have rescued five of the military officers while the whereabouts of the remaining is unknown.

    A source who spoke to the publication said, “They were on their way to Navy Engineering College, Sapele in Delta State.”

    The State Command’s spokesperson, SP. Kotongs Bello, who confirmed the report failed to give more details concerning the incident.

    “We rescued five and two others are yet to be rescued. That is the one I am aware of,” he said.

    The development comes barely a week after the Islamic State in West Africa Province fighters abducted two soldiers and two Yobe Liaison officers on Damaturu/Maiduguri highway.

    The insurgents also released the identity cards of their abductees.

    All of the four victims were abducted on Saturday along Maiduguri/Damaturu highway.

    While Mai Lalle and Mustapha were traveling to Maiduguri, the two Army personnel were traveling to Kano on a pass permit.

    No contact has been made with the families
