The Oyo state police command on Sunday, January 25, confirmed that gunmen killed a police officer identified as Aliu Oluwole at Budo Masalasi border post in Oyo state.
The command’s spokesperson, Ayanlade Olayinka, stated that the officer was part of a patrol team led by Entonu Shaibu, which was targeted by a gang of 10 to 15 gunmen at the border post.
Oluwole was killed while courageously repelling the attack when the team came under heavy gunfire from the gunmen.
The gunmen also made away with Oluwole’s AK-47 rifle loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition, bearing breach number 4516.
Preliminary findings indicate that some of the attackers sustained gunshot injuries during the exchange of fire, and police operatives are currently tracking them down.
The commissioner of police, Femi Haruna, ordered an immediate manhunt and comprehensive investigation into the attack.
Olayinka reassured residents that the command has deployed adequate security measures across the state to protect lives and property.
He urged members of the public to remain calm and vigilant, particularly reporting anyone with gunshot wounds or seeking medical attention under suspicious circumstances to the nearest police station or security agency.
