Gunmen kill policemen, lecturer, two others in Benue

    Gunmen have killed five people including two policemen, and a university lecturer in separate attacks on two local government areas of Benue state.

    The attacks took place in Guma and Ukum local government areas of the state, according to Daily Trust.

    Two policemen were reportedly killed in Yelewata area of Guma LGA, a border town between Benue and Nasarawa states when the gunmen stormed the region on Friday morning, June 24.

    The second attack which occurred at Jootar, in Ukum local government area, involved three friends identified as Fred Akaayar, a lecturer in the department of mass communication at the federal university, Wukari in Taraba state, Aondo Ayangeapever and Shiaondo Kachina, according to an eyewitness.

    The eyewitness added that the three friends were relaxing at a drinking joint in Jootar when some gunmen attacked the drinking spot on a motorcycle, and started shooting sporadically, leading to the death of the lecturer and his two friends.

    Meanwhile, the Benue state police command is yet to verify the attack as of the time of filing this report.
