Gunmen kill woman, her 6 children in Kano

    A woman identified as Fatima Abubakar and her six children were killed on Saturday, January 17, after gunmen broke into their home in Darayi quarters, Kano municipal local government area of Kano state.

    Neighbours raised the alarm after discovering the victims’ lifeless bodies.

    The bodies were evacuated and taken to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital in Kano, where medical personnel confirmed the deaths.

    The Kano state police command confirmed the attack, saying it received a distress call around 12:10 pm on January 17.

    The command’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Kiyawa, said the commissioner of police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, immediately deployed a tactical team to the scene, led by the deputy commissioner of police in charge of operations, Lawal Isah Mani.

    Kiyawa said the victims were attacked with dangerous weapons during the home invasion.

    Bakori has also ordered a comprehensive investigation into the killings, directing the assistant commissioner of police, Wada Jarma, who oversees the criminal investigation department, to lead the probe.

    The command extended condolences to the bereaved family and residents, assuring the public of its commitment to bringing the perpetrators to justice.
