Armed assailants launched a fresh attack on a community in Benue state’s Agatu local government area, resulting in the deaths of at least 10 individuals.
The attackers wreaked havoc on Olegumachi, burning down houses and spreading terror.
This incident occurred mere days after a similar attack in Ikpele community, which claimed the lives of three people, including an elderly couple.
It was said that the gunmen struck on Tuesday July 9 evening, killing numerous residents and setting multiple houses ablaze.
The chairman of the local government area, Phillip Ebenyakwu, confirmed the incident, stating that 10 people lost their lives and seven houses were reduced to ashes.
He said that the gunmen were heavily armed and engaged in looting, robbery, and arson, burning seven houses and stealing properties and animals such as goats and fowls.
Ebenyakwu has filed a report with the police and department of state security (DSS).
The police authorities have yet to receive an official report from the Agatu divisional police officer, according to the police public relations officer, Catherine Anene.
