Suspected armed herders have once again attacked Otobi-Akpa in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State, leaving at least four people dead following a midnight attack.
Residents said the attackers stormed the community on midnight of Tuesday, firing gunshots repeatedly and triggering panic that forced many people to abandon their homes in search of safety.
The assault, it was gathered, went on for hours and resulted in the deaths of four people identified as Hon. Ochi Ayedu, Eje Uzu, Alinko, and Achibi. As of the time of this report, several residents were still missing, raising fears that the casualty figure could rise.
The fresh violence comes only months after Otobi-Akpa suffered a similar attack in which no fewer than 13 people were killed, many others sustained injuries or were declared missing, and over 50 houses were destroyed.
