Hollywood actor Eric Dane passed away on Thursday, February 19, after a battle with a neurodegenerative disease.
The 53-year-old, best known for his roles on Grey’s Anatomy and Euphoria, publicly disclosed his diagnosis with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, in April 2025.
ALS is the most common form of motor neurone disease, which affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord responsible for voluntary muscle movement.
Over time, it weakens muscles, often leading to difficulties with speaking, eating, walking, and eventually breathing independently.
Following his diagnosis, Eric used public appearances to help raise awareness about the disease and the need for research funding.
Eric is survived by his wife, actress and model Rebecca Gayheart, and their two daughters, Billie and Georgia.
The family confirmed his passing in a heartbreaking statement, noting that he spent his final days surrounded by his loved ones.
“With heavy hearts, we share that Eric Dane passed on Thursday afternoon following a courageous battle with ALS.
“He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.
“Eric adored his fans and is forever grateful for the outpouring of love and support he’s received,” the statement read.
