Hoodlums have attacked and killed an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), SC Bashir Adamu Jibril, in Jigawa State.
According to an eyewitness, the incident occurred on Monday, August 04, after the officer arrested a suspected criminal at Shuwarin Market in Kiyawa Local Government Area.
He explained that after the suspect was apprehended, the suspect’s associates assaulted the officer with sticks and cutlasses, causing injuries that resulted in his death.
The NSCDC spokesperson for Jigawa State Command, ASC Badruddeen Tijjani Mahmud, confirmed the incident in an official statement.
He stated that, “On Monday, 4th August 2025, at around 1:00 pm, SC Bashir Adamu Jibril was carrying out his official duties near Shuwarin Market in Kiyawa Local Government Area when he was violently attacked and killed.”
He explained that the attack occurred after the officer, who was part of the Intelligence Department, successfully apprehended a criminal suspect.
This arrest angered a group of hoodlums who then resorted to violence in an attempt to obstruct justice.
The mob, armed with cutlasses, sticks, and other locally made weapons, launched a brutal assault on the officer, causing severe injuries that resulted in his immediate and tragic death.
The officer was rushed to Dutse General Hospital, where medical staff confirmed he had died upon arrival.
Badruddeen stated that the main suspect believed to have organized the mob attack has been arrested by the Corps, and investigations are still underway to apprehend the other individuals involved.
The Command vehemently condemned the brutal act of vigilante violence against the officer while he was performing his duty.
It reassured the public and the family of the deceased that justice will be fully pursued, and every effort will be made to ensure that all those responsible for this heinous crime are held accountable.
