Nine individuals lost their lives on Thursday, October 3, due to a fire that swept through a hospital in southern Taiwan, the nation’s fire agency announced.
The fire in Pingtung County, Taiwan, was reported around 7:40 a.m and was extinguished shortly after 1 p.m.
Eight victims were confirmed dead after being transported for treatment as a result of the incident, while another was discovered deceased at the scene.
The inferno occurred on the same day Typhoon Krathon struck the southern part of the island, though Taiwanese officials have not connected the two events.
The typhoon has caused schools and businesses to close for a second consecutive day due to strong winds and heavy rainfall, resulting in two fatalities and over 100 injuries.
