The Lagos State Chapter of the Committee for the Defense of Human Rights (CDHR), a human rights organization, has requested that state-owned vehicle drivers undergo psychiatric evaluations.
The call was made in response to the recent death of six people in a train and Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) collision in PWD Ikeja, Lagos. Employees of the Lagos State government were being transported to Alausa by bus.
In a statement from its chairman for Lagos State, Comrade Kehinde Adeoye, CDHR expressed sympathy to the families of those who lost loved ones and wished those who were hurt a speedy recovery.
The group suggested conducting a thorough investigation of the situation.
Recall that on February 26, 2022, Miss Oluwabamise Ayanwola, a 22-year-old fashion designer, passed away unexpectedly inside a Lagos State-owned facility run by the Lagos Bus Services Limited (LBSL).
The case has been in court for a year as of Sunday, February 26, 2023, despite numerous needless postponements.
The funeral for Ayanwola took place on December 16, 2022. This is one too many incidents.
However, the group demanded that the government of Lagos State take all necessary steps to test the mental health of drivers of state-owned vehicles.
Also, they requested that government should name the three other persons that were inside BRT Bus No. 240257 apart from Andrew Nice Ominikoron, the driver, at the time of Ayanwola’s brutal murder and their accomplices.
