A 34-year-old woman has been found dead in a shallow canal close to a piggery farm in the Mabolufon area of Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.
The state police command stated that the deceased had gone missing before her body was found on Friday, November 3.
A source stated that the deceased’s husband who had led the search, immediately approached the Igbeba police division in the area to report the incident.
Meanwhile, the command stated that her family became concerned when the wife left home on Thursday, November 2, and did not return.
It was gathered that the circumstances leading to her death were unclear, but a plastic bag containing an unidentified liquid substance was found at the scene.
The police added that two pairs of slippers suspected to belong to the deceased were found just beside the canal.
Although there were no signs of violent marks on her body, an investigation has commenced to unravel the circumstances of her disappearance and death.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, who confirmed the incident on Sunday, November 5, said preliminary investigation is ongoing.
“Once completed, the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
“In the meantime, the body has been taken to the State Hospital Mortuary in Ijebu-Ode for an autopsy”, she said.
