The Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike, has said that he is not interested in becoming a minister after his tenure as governor.
Wike’s comments come amid speculation that he is demanding to be Minister, as one of the conditions to work for the Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar.
Wike made this known during the inauguration of the newly constructed lounge at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa region of the state, on Tuesday, August 16.
The Rivers state governor said, “Only one person can be appointed as minister from a state, and I have decided that I will not be that person.
“I will not become a minister after my tenure as the governor of Rivers state, because I’m not interested in any ministerial position.
“I don’t need to be consoled with any ministerial position, and this is why I’m making it known that I will not become a minister after my tenure as governor.
“He who wears the shoes knows where it pinches him,” he added.
As the usual practice, ministerial appointments are usually some of the appointments used to compensate aspirants who lost out or stepped down in a political contest, according to The Punch.
Wike had inaugurated the lounge in the state unlike his usual practice of inviting special guests to do so.
The Rivers state governor also challenged leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state to come home and campaign for their presidential candidate, instead of “spreading rumours” about him in Abuja.
