The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on Thursday, January 29, arrested the former director-general of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Bashir Jamoh, in Kaduna state.
According to his family representative, identified as Kazeem Olajide, Jamoh was intercepted by armed men who identified themselves as ICPC operatives. while returning to his residence from a court appearance.
Following his arrest, Jamoh was first taken to his residence in Kaduna, where ICPC operatives searched the premises.
Olajide confirmed that after the search, Jamoh was immediately transported to Abuja on the same day.
He added that the commission has blocked all forms of communication since he was taken into custody and denied him the right to speak with his relatives or consult with his legal counsel.
The family representative described the situation as distressing, expressing deep concern about Jamoh’s welfare and the circumstances surrounding his detention.
He stated that the family was not aware whether Jamoh had been previously invited by the ICPC before his arrest.
The ICPC has not issued any official statement regarding the reasons for Jamoh’s detention, and no details of specific allegations or the nature of investigations linked to the arrest have been made public by the commission.
During his tenure as the former NIMASA boss between 2020 and 2024, Jamoh oversaw critical aspects of Nigeria’s maritime sector, including maritime administration and security.
