President Bola Tinubu, on Tuesday, April 28, charged stakeholders and leaders in Plateau state with identifying those behind the recent attacks in the state and prosecuting them accordingly.
Tinubu met with the Plateau delegation led by Caleb Mutfwang, governor of the state, at the State House in Abuja.
Vice-resident Kashim Shettima, Simon Lalong, senator representing Plateau south, and Nentawe Yilwatda, national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), were present at the meeting.
The meeting was sequel to Tinubu’s recent visit to Plateau over killings.
On April 2, Tinubu visited Plateau to commiserate with victims of the March 29 attack at Angwan Rukuba community in Jos north local government area .
Speaking during the meeting, Tinubu asked the Plateau leaders to return home and engage in a meeting on how to bring about peace in the state.
The president urged them to review the white paper on attacks in the state and implement the recommendations.
Tinubu said he would work with the national assembly on the creation of state police to address some of the issues of insecurity.
The president asked the leaders to identify those who are inciting violence in their states for prosecution.
“The leaders will go back home and summon the leadership meeting. Pretend that I’m there or pretend that I’m absent because you are still going to give me feedback,” Tinubu said.
“Thank God all the former governors are alive and here. Call one another. Ignore the governors’ committee or incorporate it. Take that white paper or gazette, go through it, and agree to implement the white paper.
“The legislators, who are here, we are going to work together to establish state police. I believe once we have state police, enforcement of law, and others will take care of some of these problems.
“For us to stop creating widows, widowers, orphans, there must be peace. It is very tough to develop when you don’t have peace.”
Speaking during the meeting, Mutfwang said the former Plateau governors have come together for the first time to work towards ensuring peace in the state.
“We have started a journey. The coming together of former governors has never happened before. This is the first time it is happening,” Mutfwang said.
“I believe that it is a step we can build upon. Since we have closed the political space, I’m sure some of the issues that have been politicised have been narrowed out, and we will be able to move together as brothers and ensure we achieve a common goal for the benefit of our people and the nation.”
