The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Tunji Disu, has ordered a special resit examination for senior officers who were sidelined in previous promotion cycles, scheduled to hold on Tuesday, March 24, at the Police Service Commission (PSC) headquarters in Abuja.
The move is aimed at addressing irregularities in past promotion exercises and providing affected officers with a fresh opportunity to be reassessed for advancement within the Nigeria police force.
According to an internal police communication dated March 16, the PSC rescheduled the promotion exercise for Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs), Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs), and Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs).
It also includes Superintendents of Police (SPs), who were unsuccessful in the December 2025 and March 2026 promotion cycles.
The earlier promotion exercises were marred by a bribery scheme that favoured junior officers over more qualified senior personnel, thereby stalling career progression for many affected officers.
The irregularities occurred during the tenure of former IGP Kayode Egbetokun.
The current police leadership is now seeking to address the situation by providing a fresh opportunity for affected officers to be reassessed under a more transparent process.
The directive instructed all commands to release eligible officers to participate in the exercise, while advising candidates to prepare in key areas such as professional studies, law, and relevant local regulations.
To ensure the smooth conduct of the exercise, the IGP approved the deployment of security personnel and logistics support, including armed escorts and operational vehicles at the force headquarters in Abuja.
The affected officers have been directed to attend in their standard uniform, including black jackets, berets, and swagger canes.
