Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele, on Saturday, January 31, fired back at fellow filmmaker Kunle Afolayan, stating that she is not hindering his progress and urging him to create his own alternative path.

Her statement followed remarks made by Afolayan at the Lagos business of film summit on Friday, where he stated that, given the current cinema landscape, he would only produce for the big screen if he wouldn’t have to dance to promote the film.

He further said he does not understand how colleagues like Funke and others manage such high-energy marketing demands.

“I’m not the one hindering your progress, Ka rin ka po, yiye nin ye ni.

“If you can’t beat them or join them, create your own path.

“No allow jealousy burn you, the sky is so big for everybody to fly.

    “Eyin Werey jojo!!!,’ she wrote.

Afolayan had also declared on Thursday that he is not interested in ₦1 billion or ₦2 billion cinema earnings if he cannot get at least ₦10 million from the earnings.

Funke, whose latest film, Behind the Scenes, recently shattered records at the Nigerian box office with an unprecedented ₦2.4 billion gross, took to her instagram story on Saturday to address the remarks.

She advised creators to explore alternative marketing strategies for their projects or hire professionals to handle promotions.

“Go ahead and create alternative promotion or marketing strategy for promoting your business, or hire a company to handle it.

“You can do it! the opportunities are endless,” she added.

Funke emphasized that while everyone’s journey is different, she remains committed to her own path, fueled by her faith in God’s divine plan.
