It has been confirmed by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) that celebrity cross-dresser, Bobrisky, was arrested at the Seme border between the country and Benin Republic.
The NIS said in a statement on Monday that Bobrisky, real name Idris Okuneye, was attempting to flee Nigeria when he was caught.
“In keeping with its commitment to securing the borders, Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) intercepted Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, otherwise known as Bobrisky, at the Seme Border over an attempt to exit the country,” the statement said..
“The Service wishes to inform the public that OKUNEYE IDRIS is a person of interest over recent issues of public concern. He is undergoing interrogation and will be handed over to the appropriate Authorities for further action.
“The Service assures the public that it will continue to be civil and professional in its statutory responsibility of manning the Country’s borders.”
Bobrisky is being investigated by a committee of the House of Representatives alongside the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) over bribery allegations.
Selft-styled social media activist, Martin Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, had leaked an audio recording in which Bobrisky claimed that he paid some EFCC officials N15 million to drop money laundering charges against him.
Bobrisky was also alleged to have bribed prison officials in order to spend his six-month term for naira abuse in a comfortable apartment away from the prison.
