The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has elevated 2,339 staff nationwide following the conclusion of its 2025 senior staff promotion exercise, reinforcing what it described as a deliberate effort to strengthen institutional capacity and ensure steady leadership succession within the organisation.
The approvals were finalised at a meeting of the commission on Thursday, February 26.
Details of the outcome were later made public in Abuja on Tuesday through a statement by Victoria Eta-Messi.
Breakdown of the promotions shows that at the directorate cadre, covering Grade Levels 16–17, 45 deputy directors moved up to the position of director.
Among them, 18 are to remain in service, while 27 are expected to retire shortly after their elevation, in line with civil service regulations.
At Grade Levels 15–16, 91 assistant directors advanced to deputy directors. In the same exercise, 82 chief officers on grade levels 14–15 rose to the rank of assistant directors.
“The promotion exercise also affected 2,121 intermediate officers on GL 07–13 across various departments of the Commission.
“In all, the promotions cut across multiple cadres and were conducted in accordance with established guidelines and extant public service rules, ” the statement said.
According to the commission, the exercise demonstrates its commitment to recognising performance, long service and professional dedication, while maintaining operational depth as it prepares for upcoming electoral activities.
It congratulated those elevated and encouraged them to uphold professionalism, impartiality and integrity in the execution of their duties.
