A total of 19 newly appointed Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs), were, on Thursday, November 3, sworn in by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
President Muhammadu Buhari, in July, 2022, transmitted the names of 19 nomineesas INEC RECs to the senate for confirmation.
The senate, on October 5, 2022, confirmed the appointments of the nominees.
The appointees were confirmed by the lawmakers after some civil society organisations (CSOs) had kicked against the list, alleging that some of the nominees “are partisan and have questionable character”.
Of the 19 nominees, five were reappointed for a second and final term of five years while 14 others had new appointments.
The five nominees reappointed include Ibrahim Abdullahi (Adamawa state), Obo Effanga (Cross River state), Umar Ibrahim (Taraba state), Agboke Olaleke (Ogun state), and Samuel Egwu (Kogi state).
The 14 others include Onyeka Ugochi (Imo state), Muhammad Bashir (Sokoto state), Ayobami Salami (Oyo state), Zango Abdu (Katsina state), Queen Elizabeth Agwu (Ebonyi state), and Agundu Tersoo (Benue state).
Others are Yomere Oritsemlebi (Delta state), Yahaya Ibrahim (Kaduna state), Nura Ali (Kano state), Agu Uchenna (Enugu), Ahmed Garki (FCT), and Hudu Yunusa (Bauchi state), Uzochukwu Chijioke (Anambra state), and Mohammed Nura (Yobe state), according to The Punch.
