The Islamic regime of Iran on Friday, April 17, declared that the Strait of Hormuz will be ‘completely open’ for all commercial vessels after a ceasefire was struck between Israel and Lebanon.
Iran’s foreign minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, said in a post on X that the Strait of Hormuz, which has been effectively closed since the start of the war, causing chaos in global oil markets, is now ‘open’ for the remaining period of the ceasefire.
“In line with the ceasefire in Lebanon, the passage for all commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz is declared completely open for the remaining period of the ceasefire, on the coordinated route as already announced by the Ports and Maritime Organisation of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Abbas Aragchi said.
However, the United States (U.S) president Donald Trump acknowledged the announcement in a post on Truth Social, repeating that the Strait was fully open.
It was reported that oil prices plunged more than 11 per cent.
Meanwhile, Europe’s leading stock indexes all traded higher on the day, and U.S futures also pointed to a stronger open.
A Pakistani-flagged tanker exited the Gulf through the strait, in a rare journey through the waterway amid the blockade.
The U.S blocked Iranian ports after the Islamic regime closed the vital shipping route.
The head of U.S Central Command (CENTCOM) said that the naval blockade is already in full effect.
Earlier, the U.S president said the negotiations held in Islamabad were largely successful, noting that most points were agreed to, but insisted Tehran remained firm on its nuclear ambitions.
“Effective immediately, the U.S Navy, the Finest in the World, will begin the process of blockading any Ships trying to enter, or leave, the Strait of Hormuz,” Trump said on Truth Social.
