The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has announced that candidates with disabilities will not be required to pay for application documents for the 2026/2027 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME.
The decision was made public in JAMB’s weekly bulletin released on Monday and published on the Board’s official website.
According to the bulletin, the initiative will be implemented through the JAMB Equal Opportunity Group, which will handle the processing of applications for eligible persons with disabilities intending to sit the examination.
Speaking at a meeting with key stakeholders at JAMB’s national headquarters in Abuja, the Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, reaffirmed the Board’s long-standing commitment to promoting inclusive access to education.
He explained that the free application policy is part of broader efforts to support candidates with special needs.
Oloyede noted that the initiative covers a wide range of conditions, including Down syndrome, autism, dyslexia and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, among others.
“To support persons living with disabilities, JAMB will issue free application documents to all categories of persons living with disabilities.
“For candidates to enjoy this, such candidates must possess five O’Level credits at not more than two sittings. In addition, audiobooks will be provided to all blind candidates,” he said.
The registrar further explained that the audiobooks are digital versions of printed study materials and will be available in commonly used audio formats such as MP3, WMV and WMA, allowing easy use across compatible devices.
He added that the programme reflects JAMB’s determination to eliminate barriers and ensure equal educational opportunities for candidates with disabilities.
Meanwhile, registration for the 2026/2027 UTME began on Monday, January 26, and is scheduled to end on Saturday, February 28.
