The Jigawa State House of Assembly has approved the N901.841 billion budget for 2026, endorsing Governor Umar Namadi’s proposal, titled “Budget of Innovation and Transformation for Greater Jigawa II.”
The budget, initially presented to the Assembly on November 25, places strong emphasis on capital projects (77 percent), education (over 26 percent), and agriculture, aiming to accelerate development across the state.
Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, Aliyu Dangyatim, announced during a plenary session on Tuesday, that the budget has been approved as presented, with a total sum of N901.841 billion.
Dangyatim explained that the allocation is largely focused on capital expenditure, which receives N693.4 billion.
“This will drive infrastructure growth and development,” he added.
The budget reflects a 19.2 percent increase compared to 2025, demonstrating the state’s commitment to progress.
“We’re committed to ensuring Jigawa develops rapidly,” Dangyatim said. Key infrastructure projects, including road and energy initiatives, are prioritised.
“This will improve lives and boost economic growth,” he noted, praising Governor Namadi’s emphasis on innovation and transformation.
“This budget aligns with our vision for Jigawa,” Dangyatim added.
He also assured timely implementation, saying, “We’ll work with the executive to ensure projects are delivered.”
Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, Ibrahim Hamza Adamu, highlighted the budget’s attention to critical sectors like education and agriculture while presenting the committee’s report.
“This budget prioritises development and will transform Jigawa,” he said, noting that agriculture alone received N75 billion for food and livestock programs.
“This will boost food security and commercial farming in Jigawa,” Adamu added. Education, allocated over 26 percent of the budget, will focus on infrastructure and quality.
“Quality education is key to Jigawa’s future,” he said.
The House unanimously passed the budget without modifying any of the figures presented by Governor Namadi, demonstrating broad agreement on the state’s development priorities.
