18 people lost their lives in a fatal road accident that occurred on Tuesday in Dutse Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

According to a statement issued in Dutse by the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, spokesperson, in the state, Corps Route Commander Yahaya Ibrahim, the crash involved two Volkswagen vehicles and a tipper truck. Preliminary findings attributed the incident to excessive speed and a tyre burst.

Ibrahim explained that the accident happened around 12:15 p.m. at Danmasara village along the Dutse–Kwanar Huguma road.

“Eighteen people, including children, lost their lives in the incident that involved two golf cars and one tipper. The crash was caused by speeding,a  tyre burst and loss of control.

“Twenty people were involved in the accident, out of which 18 lost their lives, while the tipper driver and his assistant sustained injuries.

“The injured victims and corpses were taken to Dutse General Hospital by our rescue team,” Ibrahim said.

The tragic development comes barely days after the Corps confirmed another fatal crash in Jigawa State. On December 25, an accident along the Ringim–Sankara–Beguwa road in Ringim Local Government Area claimed 11 lives and left 12 others injured.

That incident, which involved a Volkswagen vehicle, was similarly linked to tyre burst and over-speeding.
