The Jigawa state police command has arrested 153 people in a sweeping operation targeting criminal hideouts, drug joints, and other black spots across the state.
The raids, which were carried out simultaneously in all 42 police divisions, followed weeks of surveillance aimed at curbing rising incidents of drug abuse and related crimes.
Command spokesperson, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam confirmed the arrests in a statement on Monday.
The suspects were picked up for a range of offences, including drug peddling, possession of illicit substances, and other criminal activities.
The sweep was part of the command’s ongoing drive to rid communities of criminal elements.
“During the raids, officers seized large quantities of drugs and banned substances including 3,139 exol tablets, 2,977 D5 tablets, 1,774 capsules of tramadol, three blocks and 943 wraps of cannabis, 98 diazepam tablets, 176 bottles of rubber solution, 46 suck and die substances, and 500 bottles of cough syrup,” he said.
Police also confiscated five pregabalin tablets, 37 Pentazocine injections, 22 vegakris tablets, 30 packets of snuff, ₦228,570 in cash, and a motorcycle allegedly used for distribution.
The commissioner of police, CP Dahiru Muhammad, praised the operatives for what he described as a well-coordinated crackdown.
He stressed that the command would sustain similar operations to ensure the safety of residents.
“Jigawa people deserve a safe and secure environment. We will continue to go after criminals until every hideout is dismantled,” Muhammad said.
