Veteran actress Joke Silva on Sunday, March 1st, was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2025 edition of the Silverbird Man of the Year Awards, held at Eko Hotel and Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos.
The award was given in recognition of her artistic excellence and her pivotal role in shaping Nollywood.
In her acceptance speech, Joke described the honour as both humbling and symbolic of a continuing journey.
“Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, fellow storytellers, friends of the arts, thank you.
“This Lifetime Achievement Award humbles me, and I feel highly honoured, but it is not an endpoint, but a bridge to tomorrow,” she said.
She noted that for more than four decades, she has remained committed to storytelling across stage and screen, adding that the recognition belongs not only to her but also to countless unsung voices whose stories have shaped her work.
Joke has consistently pushed the boundaries of Nigerian performance art from her formative years in theatre to her prominent roles in Nollywood.
Over the years, she has mentored younger actors, championed the dignity of the profession, and served as a living bridge between the classical foundations of Nigerian theatre and its modern evolution.
