The minister of power, Joseph Tegbe, on Thursday, May 7, dismissed media reports claiming he promised to fix national power grid within three months, describing the reports as inaccurate and misleading following his senate screening in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The clarification was issued in a statement by his spokesperson, Adeola Adelabu, who said the minister never made such a commitment during his appearance before the senate, adding that timelines for reforms in the power sector are still being developed based on technical assessments and consultations with key stakeholders.
According to the statement, Tegbe explained that while initial efforts to stabilise the national grid would begin within his first 100 days in office, deeper structural reforms in the sector would require a longer period to achieve sustainable results.
He further noted that reforms involving sector credibility, gas supply, metering, and operational efficiency could take up to one year to deliver meaningful progress, depending on ongoing diagnostics and policy alignment within the industry.
