Captors of the Abuja-Kaduna bound train passengers received a total of N300 million ransom before the additional three kidnapped victims were released on Monday, July 25.
The released victims were among the scores of passengers abducted on March 28, 2022, by terrorists who derailed the moving train.
The three victims, which included two males and a female were released on Monday, July 25, after four months in captivity.
The abductees’ identities have not been officially declared, however, one of them has been identified as Barrister Usman Lawal Othman.
A security source, on Monday, July 25, said that the victims’ families paid N100 million each for the release of their loved ones.
“What I can tell you now is that the terrorists have freed three kidnapped victims among the abductees left in captivity.
“The three kidnapped victims released by the terrorists include two males and a female, and each of those released paid N100 million,” the source said.
A family member of Barrister Hassan, said that N100 million was paid to the terrorists before they agreed to release him, according to Nigerian Tribune.
“My elder brother paid N50 million, while friends, sympathisers paid the remaining balance. We are happy to see our brother back,” he said.
“On behalf of our family, we thank Nigerians for their prayers and support during these most difficult times. We never envisaged we would see him alive, especially when we saw him in the video clip on Sunday, July 24.
“We couldn’t sleep. We were all awake, praying fervently for the release of all the kidnapped victims still in captivity,” the family member added.
