Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has submitted the proposed 2026 budget, amounting to ₦642 billion, to the Kebbi State House of Assembly.
The fiscal plan, named ‘Budget of Transformation and People’s Empowerment’, emphasizes development and accountability, with substantial investments in infrastructure.
Governor Idris highlighted that the budget includes the Kebbi State Security Trust Fund to address prevailing security concerns, notably the abduction of the Maga schoolgirls. The fund is set to receive an initial takeoff grant of ₦3 billion and is expected to enhance security measures within local communities.
In his presentation, the governor noted that 75 percent of the total budget, or ₦479 billion, will be allocated to capital expenditure, while ₦163 billion, representing 25 percent, is designated for recurrent expenditure. He explained that the budget will be financed through Federal Allocation, FAAC, Value Added Tax, VAT, and the state’s internally generated revenue, IGR.
Governor Idris provided updates on infrastructure projects, stating that by the first quarter of 2026, the Zuru, Bena, and Wasagu General Hospitals, among other initiatives, will be completed. The budget also prioritizes expanded urban rehabilitation. In the judiciary, digital case management systems will be introduced across Kebbi courts to ensure timely and efficient dispensation of justice.
Speaker Usman Muhammad, in his response, commended the governor for implementing projects that directly benefit the people, citing the execution of the 2025 budget as evidence of effective governance.
“Our relationship with you has been cordial, respectful, and collaborative. I assure you that the bill will be passed by next week,” the speaker remarked during Thursday’s event.
