French Foreign Ministry has denied reports that the seven members of a French family who were abducted by armed men in the Northern part of Cameroon have been found. A Cameroonian military source who spoke on the condition of anonymity had earlier disclosed that the hostages were found in northern Nigeria on Thursday. “They are safe and sound. They are in the hands of Nigerian authorities”, the source disclosed”, the official said.  There were reports that the four children and three adults were found in a house in Dikwa in Bornu State where they were abandoned. The family is made up of a couple, their children aged 5, 8, 10 and 12 as well as an uncle. The French Foreign Ministry has however described the reports as unfounded. Nigerian security agencies too have denied reports that the family has been found.

President Francois Hollande of France had claimed that the hostages were taken by a “terrorist” group operating from Nigeria.
