Nollywood actor, Adekunle Olalekan, popularly called Kunle Afod has sought public help for veteran singer Innocent Onyebuchi, popularly known as Daddy Fresh, after visiting the ailing musician in a hospital in Lagos.
Kunle Afod, who shared a video of the visit on his facebook page on Wednesday, described the singer’s condition as critical and appealed to Nigerians to support him financially and emotionally.
In the video, the visibly frail artist lay on a hospital bed and struggled to recognise Kunle Afod at first before expressing shock at the actor’s visit.
He recounted that he had been bedridden for more than two years due to multiple health complications affecting his kidneys, liver, eyes, and nerves.
“I started hallucinating, seeing people, those I know and those I don’t. I talk directly to them, but other people don’t see them.
“I need blood transfusion. I need to buy some pints of blood. They said they need that one immeidiately, like two or three packs of blood because my blood dey very low at 25%.
“If I stand up here now, I will fall, except somebody hold me. I’ve had several injuries from trying, like a child that is learning how to walk,” he said.
Daddy Fresh added that the prolonged illness had exhausted his savings, leaving him unable to pay his rent.
He revealed that he had received a quit notice from his landlord and might soon lose his home.
“I have just a few days left before they send me out. I don’t even know where to go next,” he lamented.
The veteran reggae artist, who gained fame in the 1990s with hit songs such as Elerugbe Erue and Faka Fiki Foko, said he believes his ordeal may have spiritual undertones but expressed hope that Kunle Afod’s visit marked a turning point.
Kunle Afod, who was visibly moved by the singer’s condition, gave him some money and called on the public, especially those in the entertainment industry, to rally around the ailing musician.
“I am here to solicit and beg the world, beg Nigeria as a whole, and beg the entertainment industry as a whole.
“Daddy Fresh is not a name that we can say we don’t remember in the entertainment industry in Nigeria.
“Nigerians, we need your support. Entertainers, the music industry, I am calling you people out. Please, let’s keep him alive. I met him in a very, very bad state,” he appealed.
