The Labour Party (LP) on Sunday, May 3, offered Alex Otti, governor of Abia state, free expression of interest and nomination forms for his second-term re-election bid, pegging its presidential nomination form at N50 million.
In a statement, Ken Asogwa, national publicity secretary of the LP, announced the party’s timetable and schedule of activities for its 2026 primary elections.
Asogwa said the sale of nomination forms will commence on May 6 and end on May 16, while the submission of completed forms is scheduled for May 17 to May 18.
He said the screening of aspirants will take place on May 20 for house of assembly and governorship positions and on May 22 for national assembly and presidential aspirants, with results to be published on May 23.
He added that appeals and petitions will be heard on May 24 for state positions and May 25 for national offices, while the final list of cleared aspirants will be released on May 26.
According to him, the primaries for house of assembly and governorship positions are scheduled for May 27, and May 29 for national assembly and presidential aspirants.
On fees, Asogwa said the party fixed the presidential expression of interest form at N10 million and the nomination form at N40 million, bringing the total to N50 million.
He added that governorship aspirants are to pay N25 million, while senate forms cost N10 million, house of representatives N5 million, and state house of assembly N3 million.
However, Asogwa said the LP has exempted the Abia governor from paying the fees.
“His excellency Alex Otti shall be presented both his expression of interest form and the nomination form free by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party,” the statement read.
The LP spokesperson noted that the gesture is in appreciation of the good work he is doing as a governor, which has projected the party in a good light.
He added that female aspirants, Persons With Disabilities (PWDs), and youths aged 25 to 30 will only pay for expression of interest forms across all categories.
He urged prospective aspirants to complete their membership registration before the May 4 deadline, ahead of the submission of the party’s register to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
