They, however, commended the management of Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, for commitment to workers’ welfare. The unions under the Hotel and Personal Services Senior Staff (HAPSSSA) and National Union of Hotel and Personal Services Workers (NUHPSW) said only the intervention of the Federal Government could save the affected hotels from the workers’ wrath. The president of HAPSSSA, Iyeh Adegbe, who said the unions resolved not to keep quiet, as they had approached the Ministry of Labour for intervention, lamented that big hotels engaged in unfair labour practices even after the economy has picked up from the COVID-19 era. Adegbe raised the alarm that after sacking majority of the permanent staff during COVID-19, they resorted to massive casualisation, outsourcing and contract form of employment, with strong warning and emphasis that none of the employees should have anything to do with the union.
