A Landlady identified as Bola Abiodun and her husband, Sunday, have fled their home in Temidire community, Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State, after disposing of their tenant’s body in a canal.
The incident, which took place around 12:05 pm on May 8, prompted a manhunt by the state police command after the couple disappeared following the alleged crime.
According to a police source, the tenant, identified as Iya Ibukun, was involved in a hit-and-run accident on May 5.
Suffering from injuries, Ibukun resorted to self-medication due to concerns about medical bills and eventually passed away in her apartment a few days later.
Suspicions arose among residents, leading the Community Development Association chairman, Mosuru Akindele, and youth leader, Olabode Kazeem, to be informed of the alleged incident.
“The landlady and her husband conspired to dump the body in a canal,” stated the police source.
Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident, stating efforts were underway to recover the body from the canal. Despite extensive searches, the body has not been found yet.
“Our men went to the house and discovered a two-year-old boy in a welfare facility. Meanwhile, our men combed the entire canal in search of the body, but we haven’t found anything,” she said.
This incident recalls a similar case where a landlord, Sunday Omosule, was arrested for allegedly killing his tenant’s four-year-old son with a pestle in Onipanu, Ota, Ogun State, a few years ago.
Omosule was apprehended following a distress call to the police at the Onipanu division.
During interrogation, the victim claimed to be under spiritual attack.
